Very disappointed (front door failing in 4mo)

I bought this 4 months ago and the repair man has been here 3 times already for the front doors. first it was making a noise like there was something going on with a spring. now the door do not stay fully closed. repair man came last week fixed it (saying that we have to be easier on the doors. so after a week the door will not stay fully closed. I am very unhappy about this. after spending $10,000 on a refrigerator I would expect more than this. recall or part replacement something.

A new master control board was not available for my very old panel front KitchenAid side-by-side. I replaced it with this beautiful french door model and skipped the expense of panel front -it is beautiful just like it is. When you open the doors you are wowed by the look of your food - the Platinum interior and LED lighting are impressive. On top of all of that - it is sooo quiet and keeps my food, produce and frozen items just perfectly.

We had a complete kitchen renovation completed this summer. I chose this fridge for two reasons - to get more fridge space and to have a built-in, counter-depth fridge. There's no question, the quality of the fridge is outstanding. The freezer has lots of space for our needs. I find the interior fridge space challenging - lots of drawer space but not so much shelf space because of lost depth. You have to really be on top of what you have in the fridge, to fit stuff in. Also, you have to open both doors COMPLETELY to get things out of the fridge. Our cabinet-maker didn't account for this properly, so the doors are hitting the frame of the gables that surround the fridge.

I bought the refrigerator 4 year ago and have had a constant problem with the door flap (rail mullion) coming off. It finally broke and no one a Kitchenaid can tell what part to order or where to order it. Its kind of an important part as it ensures a proper seal of the refrigerator. After charging over $8,000 for a refrigerator you'd think they would have some required parts, or at least know where to get them.

Doors won't close properly

This refrigerator came with our new home installed by the builder Aug-2018. We were so excited to use this refrigerator in the beginning. However we faced some issues with doors first and then water leaking and over temp indicator on etc., When called the builder they sent the certified service technicians few times but the problem with doors not closing properly still remains. Thats when I see all these messages about same issue. I'm not happy with this refrigerator for the price paid. I hope company can address this issue and provide a permanent solution for our problem.

Great space, but make sure you have a good install

Bought a unit 2 years ago. Doors never worked correctly, and had numerous service calls. KitchenAid replaced with a new unit and we love it. I believe the first unit was never properly installed and that caused the difficulties with the doors. But KitchenAid stood by their product and now very happy with the French door design.

Had to repair too many times

We purchased this fridge and have had many issues with the internal components. First I understand that nothing lasts forever, and moving parts will fail. That's acceptable. But changing the entire inner workings of the fridge pretty much every 2 years is unacceptable. This is not a cheap fridge, and you're looking at $10-13,000. The first time the compressor failed was probably about 18-24 months in. This was promptly replaced under warranty. Then a couple years later, it failed again, and the compressor was replaced again. A third time it was recommended to change all internal parts (compressor, condenser, evaporator), since the technician was there and had opened up the inside. A fourth time the electrical system failed entirely, and the electrical board had to be fully replaced. So this is another out of pocket cost. Now today, the freezer is not cooling again while the fridge is staying cool, although there is considerable fluctuation, leading me to believe that it's going to fully fail again. Currently I had to move all my frozen foods to a family members freezer. I'm looking at getting another tech out to replace the parts again. For the 5th time. This appliance looks great from the outside, but its internal componentry has probably cost me half the cost of replacing the fridge. I can't in good conscience recommend this fridge.

I bought this refrigerator a few months ago and have been very happy with the design and how evenly it cools in both the refrigerator and the freezer. The doors function well, but I sometime wonder if they are fully closed. The one thing that needs to be re-engineered is the compartments inside each French door that have a bottom-opening "sub-door" on the compartment. The gaskets are constantly falling off and there is no positive locking/closing mechanism (say a magnet) that keeps the "sub-door" from opening and the contents falling into the refrigerator.

Door problems like everyone else it seems

Bought this fridge in Oct 2017 and had it installed in Jan 2018. Our doors exhibited a popping noise for a few months then the lights stopped turning on when the door opened. The right door also wouldn't close completely on its own most of the time. I took the top cover off which revealed that the hinges were coming off and the arms that control the door light switches were torqued and not able to function. We had a repairman come out to check it out under warranty. He simply screwed the hinges back down and readjusted the arms. Now the right door won't close on its own most of the time, but the lights work again at least. If it stays like it is, we can live with it, but with it being less than 18 months old, I'd expect better for $8500. Based on the responses here, it seems to me that the company should be granting extended warranties to people for no charge.

We purchased this for a kitchen remodel, knowing that the bottom freezer was a priority for how we function. The price was a bit high, but we knew the good reputation of KitchenAid. The design is incredible and thoughtful - we chose the stainless interior. The lights are fantastic: bright and clear. Textured handles mean that nothing slips and fingerprints are not even noticed. The interior is sleek and stunning and easy to keep clean. Layout is good and very functional with lots of adjustable options for shelves -- we can fit much more in this model than our previous model, and visibility of all contents is great. A couple things that could be improved upon, both VERY minor: add an egg tray for individual eggs (I am sure this can be purchased separately, but really -- at this price, it would be easy). and the pulls on the interior draws and trays could be a little smoother -- the edges are slightly sharp. both of these are definitely minor issues, and the design and function far outweighs any complaints. We are looking forward to using this for many years.

This was installed middle of October 2018. Looks great and love the features. Has never cooled to temp or hold any coolness. The inside of the refridgerator is warmer than the kitchen it"s located in. After several attempts to repair we were told a new refrigerator will be expedited. Then we were told 12/11 it should be here. Now we are told it won't be here until 01/19. We are not happy. We have been using a loaner which is located in the garage

Replacement Refrigerator under warranty

I bought this in May of 2015. I have had two motherboard replacements under warranty. At the time of purchase I bought a four year extended warranty through the dealer. These service calls were covered by warranty. I placed a service call due to a torn door gasket. The service response from the warranty company was fairly prompt and he noted the issue and was later informed that the gasket was no longer available. I was issued a full instore credit for the original purchase price to the original store. I contacted Kitchen Aid personally to find out if indeed the part was not available and was told that was true. I asked if this model was discontinued and was told by the Kitchen Aid customer rep that this model was discontinued. I went to the store where I bought the original product to redeem the instore credit and purchase a new refrigerator. Because I am limited by the cabinet opening I bought the same model fridge with the exact same model number. So then, why could KitchenAid not repair my current fridge and are parts available for the new fridge.

Too many problems to list

We purchased all new KitchenAid appliances in July. Spent $16,000, 9 grand of which went to this fridge. We needed a 42 inch built in and decided to go with KitchenAid as they were one of the few that had the refrigerator plus a downdraft cook top that matched. I wish I would have shopped around. Here are a list of the issues. 1. The installers adjusted the doors to stop at 120 degrees to prevent them from hitting the items next to the doors. Well the stoppers either shifted or stretched because I had dings in both doors after approx 2 weeks. They were opening to at least 160. I had read the manual and actually had to tell the installers how to adjust the stopppers. So I removed the blocks and turned them to a 90 degree opening which turned out to be around 110 and now is nearly hitting the brand new $4,000 KitchenAid double oven on one side and the pantry door on the other. 2. The main doors do not close tight enough to seal. Closing one side pops the other open and at least once a day the door on the right, when facing the unit, just pops open a couple inches. A few hours later, an alarm goes off indicating the refrigerator is too warm. 3. The doors do not stay open when loading the fridge. They slam shut but do not seal. I know it sounds strange but it won't stay open and it won't stay shut. 4. The face on the main door in the freezer just falls off. Everything dumps into the vast abyss of the freezer. I finally taped it on later to find out that the repair service does not cover drawer faces. It was broke from the time of delivery. 5. I was told that the unit had a water dispenser inside the door. That was my fault for not checking. 6. The ice maker produces about 10 cubes a day and it is extremely inconvenient to access. We have placed two service calls on the unit in the past two months. The same technician came out both times. Both times he had no clue. He ordered a new top hinge for one side that has yet to be installed. I do not believe that is the issue and if it is the issue, I really don't want a hinge that wears out in two months. On the plus side, the unit looks great, with the exception of the dent from where the stopper block failed. I wish I would have gone with the side by side with ice and water in the door. It was the same price but the salesman convinced me that the french door was a better option.

Best built-in refrigerator ever!

I was originally in the market for a replacement refrigerator when we started our kitchen remodeling project. I wasn't really impressed or satisfied with my choices, until I gazed upon the Kitchenaid built-in refrigerator. First of all, it is a beautiful addition to our new kitchen. But best of all, it is roomy and beautiful inside. We used to have an extra refrigerator in the basement for additional items we couldn't fit in our existing refrigerator. But now, I don't have to use an extra refrigerator. My best advice for anyone considering this beauty is to spend the extra money. You will not be sorry!

Popping Noise / Poor Hinge Design

Such a pretty design, but frustrating execution. We LOVED our fridge for its look, matching other appliances in our new home / kitchen. We purchased in October 2016, and have had continuous problems with the hinges failing and making a popping noise. We've been thus far covered by warranty, and KitchenAid (KA) even upped our warranty coverage to a total of 4 years (thru Oct 2020) - however....this doesn't change the fact that we have nearly $10K in our Fridge, and have had the repair company out here approx 20 times in the last 18 months. SO SO SO frustrating and disappointed. I'm grateful I'm "covered" for the repair itself, but the time expense is exhausting, and its really sad to just generally be "worried" if one of my refrigerator doors is going to make this popping noise. I really hope it gets fixed permanently someday...while under warranty....

Defective product with horrible service

I bought this in September of 2016, by December, I had placed my first service request for the right door as it did not stay shut/ seal properly. I have had about 10 service requests since then for the exact same issue as it is never fully resolved and the last service technician told me he has done everything Tech support asked him to do so left the premises with the door still not staying shut. I have condensation in my fridge constantly because the door will not seal. I went ahead and paid hundreds of dollars to extend my warranty again because it expires in September 2018 and I would be caught with a clearly defective product. I asked kitchen aid service to consider ALL the numerous service requests and replacements over the past year and try to escalate it to someone who may actually try to figure out the issue, but every time they send a technician he does not have access to the prior history so I end up very frustrated. I then specifically requested a different company come out to service and got even worse service over a month this guy clearly did not care (D3S service) ...when he was done he said "don't close the left door when the right door is closed because that action makes the right to open". I told him that is not normal and not how the fridge worked when it was new or in the store plus clearly the resistance on the door hinge is not right and feels very flimsly I then tried to request a different company to come and fix it again, they showed up but said they could not work on it as kitchenaid would not pay them since another company just worked on it and indicated it was fixed a few days ago. I then called kitchenaid again to send the same company (D3S) out and specifically requested a different technician with more experience. They went ahead and sent the exact same tech only for him to tell me he is still waiting on whirpool to tell him what to do next. I then called the service center only to find out he lied about work he had done and made it seem as if it was just my opinion that the unit was not performing properly. I have spoken to so called supervisors at the help center but keep getting the run around and left with a faulty fridge costing me $$ in electricity to keep cool because the right door doesn't seal.

Beautiful Refrigerator

Outfitted my whole kitchen with new Kitchenaid appliances. Really like the fit and finish of this fridge. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the doors tend to slam shut on you if not fully open. Otherwise....I love this product. Would definitely buy again!

Doors don't line up

I've had the fridge for 8 months now and while I love the interior and I think the fridge works well, the one door is out of alignment. We had the kitchenaid service guy out and he said "nothing I can do, it's commercially acceptable"

fabulous appliance

Absolutely delighted with this fridge. Even with Easter entertaining I didn't run out of room in it. Interior finish and LED lights are very attractive. Lots of drawers and freezer holds so much. Replaced a 42" side by side - it was a nightmare - never enough space. Cannot tell you how much I love this unit. I have not noticed any sound, even ice maker.

Exactly what we needed!

Happy at Last

This is the second one. Bought the first one 2-4-16 and loved it. On 11-4-17 it quit working. After 6 weeks on the phone with KitchenAid they finally replaced it on 12-15-17. We love this refrigerator, it looks great, good features and runs quiet. Thanks KitchenAid for making it good!

Good but could be better.

Very quiet and spacious. Some design features could be improved. Inconvenient to stop ice maker...should not have to open both French doors in order to open refrigerator drawers.
